The building has a complex and strategic location, being an edge between the sea and the city, the urban fabric and the Harbour or park and the market.
The ground floor "Playground" is an open indoor space where is located the main entrance and all the free access areas and spaces. The idea of learning through playing inspires this part of a building, which wishes to become a lively and vibrant place where many things and activities happen at any time.
Two generic areas for exhibit the art collection have been defined: The "Physical Museum" and the "Virtual Boxes", understood as highly flexible and technical spaces in order to comply with the very different necessities that a specific installations might require.
The building is organized by a skeleton of ribs driven by a grid of parallel axes east-west every 9 meters. These ribs have a double function as spatial organizers and as technical walls where both main structure and facilities to service all the parts of the building supplies are contained.
